NEW BORN SESSION TIPS

Keep these tips in mind as you prepare yourselves and baby for their first photo shoot. Beautiful imagines and memories will be created that will last forever. Have fun and enjoy this special occasion with your new baby!

Before the Shoot:

• Please schedule your newborn session PRIOR to your baby’s birth to ensure a date in my calendar.

• Then, email me soon after you deliver so we can arrange a time for the session. The early hours are the happiest for newborn babies. If the option allows, choose the morning.

• I would like to get to know you a little better in order to customize your session 100% to your style.

When to book?
Newborn sessions MUST be scheduled within the first 10 days of life. Beautiful imagines can be made at any age, but it is during this age when they are as “curly” as they were in the womb. However, the BEST time is between 3rd and 7th day after birth. Babies just tend to do a lot better with the session within their first 7 days. After day 14, it’s almost impossible to get the baby into that deep sleep like in the first few days of life…so it’s unlikely that we’ll be able to get them into any of the newborn poses. And, keep in mind the possible newborn colic or acne that is likely to flare up after day 14.

Where?

The majority of newborn photo sessions take place in my home, exactly where a mother wants to be or in my studio. Where everything will be prepared in advanced, so your only job is to Relax (and I cant stress enough about it) and enjoy the special day. Babies are more confortable with a wormer temperature. A worm baby will curl up and pose. So, dress light or in layers.

How Long?

I spend around 3-6 hours creating your newborn session.
A newborn photo shoot is a totally different then regular family photo session. The newborn needs a lot more attention and care. Therefore I always plan more time when photographing newborns, so we can relax, feed when necessary, changing set-ups and allow the baby to settle at his or her own pace.

What should I wear?
You just had a baby and you probably aren’t feeling your best. But this is the perfect time to pamper yourself! Looking good and relaxed will make you feel more comfortable during the session. This is a special time in your life and i want to capture all of that…so take care of yourself first!
Go have your hair + makeup done (or have someone come to you!), don’t forget your nails.

Clothing? Keep it simple. Pastel colors or soft neutrals work best. Skip the busy patterns and big logos. I suggest cotton knit camis and knit tops.
Same rule applies for your husband. Solid or subtle patterned tops are the best.

When do i get my pictures?
It usually takes about 10 days to deliver processed images.

In-home session?

The photo shoot to your home will take place when baby is only a few days old ( the best between 3 and 7 days old). I will bring some blankets and backdrops, and if you have anything that you’d like to be included in the session, please make sure you have it all ready.

We will use the room in your house that has the most natural light. Make sure that there is some space near the window where we can set up a little area for baby to be comfortable. Please dont worry about the state of your house! You just had a BABY!

Have your house warmer than normal. Ideally, you’ll want the thermostat set around 27 degrees. When adults are sweating, the baby is usually most comfortable!

Undress baby and loosen baby’s diaper completely about 30 minutes before the session. This allows time for the diaper’s imprint marks to disappear from their skin.

Most of the imagines I will be shooting work best if the baby is in a deep sleep. To encourage this, I recommend that during the morning prior to our session, try and keep baby awake and stimulated as much as possible. Give baby a bath, play for a while, and try to feed him/her about 2 hours before our scheduled session. This is VERY IMPORTANT!! Once I arrive, baby will want to eat again, so I have about 15 minutes to get ready. After the baby is full and happy, make sure they are burped well.

Don’t be worried when the baby is fussy or alert. A baby can sense your anxiety. We’ll take time to relax and feed if needed so that he or she can settle.
Sometimes the best pictures are the ones when baby isn’t necessarily doing what we want.

Safety always goes first! If you are not comfortable with a certain pose, let me know. You are always around to hold and support the baby and calm him or her when needed.

Let me know beforehand if you’d like certain specific photos, I can prepare those and make sure I have all the right equipment and possible backdrops with me.

MOST importantly, the only job you have while we are together is to RELAX.
Here is a short check list for you:

– Have ready any props that you’d like to use
– Heat up the room with the most natural light and some available space
– Have plenty of blankets to keep baby warm
– Feed baby just before I arrive for the photo session
– Let me know if you’d like any special photos taken
– Safety first!

I am looking forward working with you and your newborn baby,

Andreea
